Seeking life wherever it is expressed.

Why Don’t God’s People follow the Lord – Completely

Why Don’t God’s People follow the Lord – Completely, with our Whole Being?

I add completely because many people follow the Lord to a degree but few and none that I personally know can say as Jesus did “I do nothing of my own will”.

One of the most beautiful scriptural examples of people learning to follow the Lord is the church in the wilderness. The Israelite wanderings in the wilderness is the shadow that has been cast from our time in our attempt to follow Jesus Christ. I believe that we can gain understanding of our own corporate weaknesses in following Jesus by looking at the story of the nations wanderings.

The journey begins with leaving Egypt but the wandering begins in the wilderness of Paran Num.13:3; 14:33 – when God says “And your children shall wander in the wilderness for 40 years, and they shall suffer for your unfaithfulness until your corpses have been consumed in the wilderness”.

Today we are the children that wander!

How we got here is one issue what the Lord is trying to teach us in this experience of wandering is another.

To the Adults of Israel the Lord says:

Num 14:43 says – …..Because you have turned back from following Jehovah, therefore Jehovah will not be with you.

This was not an issue of disobeying the written Law that they received at Sinai that God had against the Israelites this was an issue of not believing or trusting Him Num.14:11, 27.

To the Children of Israel the Lord says:

Num.15:2 – When you come into the land you are to inhabit, which I am giving you……!

How wonderful! – Although the disbelieving adults are without hope the Lord does not leave the children hopeless and speaks to them about what he wants to takes place when they get to their future home.

As Children of God do we know where the Lord is leading us? Do we know about our promised land? It is this very promised land that Jesus Christ came asking about when he spoke his first words to his would be disciples

John 1:38 “What do you seek? They said to Him, ” Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?”

Later on Jesus not only tells them but also shows them what they are to be seeking –

Matt.6:33″But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you

John 5:30 ” I can do nothing on My own initiative As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not My own will, but the will of Him who sent

How does Jesus teach his disciples to pray?

Matt.6:10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven

God’s will be done through who?  Maybe the people praying???????

What is the purpose of the wilderness? It is the time we are given TO LEARN to follow God and live out His will on this earth. The Wilderness gives US time to GROW UP INTO HIM WHICH IS THE HEAD.

So why don’t God’s people follow the Lord- Completely?  We don’t believe its possible!
